The most recent years of Star Wars has been one hell of a roller coaster ride with big highs and steep lows. However you feel about The Last Jedi or The Rise of Skywalker, they have been some of the most divisive movies in this franchise, though at least The Force Awakens is still relatively liked by most. Kathleen Kennedy, the president of LucasFilm, has decided to talk about the future of Star Wars and why the company is stepping back a bit from the franchise.
Speaking with The Wrap, Kennedy says that they are still re-evaluating the franchise's future and what direction to take now that they've fulfilled George Lucas' request of nine movies. We all know that Taika Waititi of Thor: Ragnarok fame is working on a new movie but details on that are currently mum, though we know he has the ability to pull that off.
"And now we're stepping back. Stories have been told within this universe over the last 40-odd years, and there's now the realization that this is a mythology that actually spans about 25,000 years, when you really start to look at all the different stories that have been told, whether it's in books and games."
With The High Republic expected to explore the past of The Jedi, we're sure LucasFilm and Disney will get a ton of great stories out of that, maybe even base some movies on them. It doesn't seem like Star Wars video games are going to progress the lore anytime soon, if Squadrons is anything to go by. Still, we're glad that the franchise isn't rushing to make it's next installment, even though we know they already secured three release dates.
