Kate Middleton and Prince William are reportedly done being nice to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The couple even skipped the first birthday of their niece, Lilibet.
Kate Middleton And Prince William Not Backing Down With Meghan Markle, Prince Harry?
The Duchess of Cambridge has played the role of peacemaker multiple times. However, she is reportedly not interested in playing the same role for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
"It seemed clear that Kate had no interest in playing nice with Meghan," unnamed sources told Heat World. "And sad as it is, William feels the same. The view is that the Sussexes were lucky to receive any type of goodwill after the damage and embarrassment they’ve caused the monarchy. Neither side looks likely to back down."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex tried to extend an olive branch by inviting his brother and sister-in-law to Lilibet's first birthday in Frogmore. However, the Cambridges were forced to decline because they already had a scheduled engagement in Wales on the same day as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration.
Royal biographer Angela Levin slammed Prince Harry for extending the invitation without checking his brother's schedule. It was already announced weeks before the jubilee that the Cambridges would travel to Wales.
Meanwhile, sources claimed that the Cambridges could not stop the Sussexes if they would return to the U.K.
"Everyone’s suspicious of Harry and Meghan. They can’t change that, but at least they made the effort by visiting the UK. If they can keep their cool, there’s nothing to stop them coming over again – whatever the Cambridges might think," the magazine's source continued.
How's Kate Middleton And Prince William's Relationship With Meghan Markle And Prince Harry?
Several sources claimed that there was no interaction between the Cambridges and the Sussexes during the Platinum Jubilee. An anonymous source told Page Six that their relationship is still strained.
"Things are still fraught — William is still wary of spending any time alone with Harry as you never quite know what may be reported back afterward," one U.K.-based insider claimed.
Even if Prince William and Kate Middleton didn't attend Lilibet's special day, they made sure to pay tribute to her on her milestone birthday on social media.
"Wishing a very happy birthday to Lilibet, turning one today!" the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tweeted.
