Kate Middleton and Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles have developed a close bond over the years. Their friendship was evident when they attended Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal wedding in 2018.
Kate Middleton And Duchess Camilla At Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding
The Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Cornwall were seated next to each other during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding in 2018. At the event, Kate Middleton made headlines for allegedly side-eyeing Prince Charles' wife.
Sean Smith, who has written biographies on Gary Barlow, JK Rowling, Tom Jones and Kate Middleton, shared the details behind the much-talked moment between the two duchesses at the royal wedding.
"When I had watched Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2019 – less than eighteen months earlier – the most memorable elements for me were her mother Doria’s quiet grace, the exquisite playing of cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the Kingdom Choir singing ‘Stand By Me’ acapella and the long, passionate sermon by the Most Rev Michael Curry on the power of love," Smith said, Express reported.
he noted that while Curry spoke during the ceremony, the reactions from the royal family were priceless. According to him, the Queen, Prince Charles, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Camilla and Zara Tindall were "fascinated" and "gobsmacked." He even noticed how Middleton and Camilla avoided each other from making eye contact for fear that they would erupt in a fit of giggles.
"Prince Charles read and re-read the order of service as if it was the latest fascinating issue of Country Life magazine; his wife Camilla and Kate Middleton were desperately trying not to make eye contact with each other," he said.
The outlet noted that the pair had developed a close bond over the years. It's also evident that they enjoy each other's company.
Camilla Parker Bowles And Kate Middleton Are The New Fab 4
True enough, Camilla even chose Middleton to take the photos of her new cover for Country Life Magazine.
Ahead of the release of Camilla's cover to mark her 75th birthday and Country Life magazine's 125th anniversary, editor Mark Hedges recalled asking her if she had a photographer in mind. Prince Charles' wife didn't hesitate to name the Duchess of Cambridge.
"She immediately replied, 'Oh I'd quite like Catherine to do it.' I spent the next three or four minutes desperately racking my brain trying to think of a professional photographer called Catherine," Hedges said, according to The Telegraph.
Royal biographer Katie Nicholl said it was lovely that Camilla chose Middleton to take the picture. When host Eamonn Holmes asked about the two duchesses' relationship, the royal editor said they were "very, very close." She even sees Camilla and Middleton being part of the new fab four.
"It's interesting isn't it, we were sitting here talking about the fab four last time and, of course, that was Harry and Meghan and William and Kate and now we talk about a very different fab four," she said, Express reported. "We are talking about Charles and Camilla and William and Kate."
