Marvel fans might want to see Rober Downey Jr. in other film franchises now that he's officially retired from his role as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but filmmaker Jon Favreau thinks that the actor should try his hand at directing instead.
Iron Man director Jon Favreau just recently went on an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss his upcoming live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. During his little talk with the entertainment news outlet, the filmmaker decided to open up about what he knew about RDJ, saying that the actor's creativity could be used in so many different ways outside of acting.
"I don't know what he's thinking, but he better direct," Favreau told the site when he was asked about what he thought was next for Downey Jr, "Otherwise, I'm not going to be his friend anymore. He's the star of the biggest movie of all time. He did it. So now, you better do stuff you love. Because if you can't do what you love, how are you going to inspire everybody else out there who's climbing that ladder? He has a lot of passion. He's an artist: He understands visual art, he understands music."
According to Favreau, RDJ would probably be one hell of a director – a statement which means a lot coming from a filmmaker behind quality movies like Iron Man, Jungle Book, Cowboys and Aliens, and more recently, The Lion King.
Of course, it would definitely be interesting to see what kind of film or series RDJ would direct. Downey may have served as producer on a few projects here and there, however, he's never really officially stepped behind the camera as a director. Now that he's no longer tied to the MCU, RDJ could give directing a try. Maybe he could work as a director for Marvel. Or for a different franchise. The world's his oyster.
