Music icon Boy George has joined the chorus of stars who criticized J.K. Rowling's controversial views on the rights of the transgender community.
The Harry Potter author, who is notoriously an anti-trans advocate, is back in the headlines in the last few weeks as she celebrated the recent court ruling in the UK regarding the definition of "women."
Boy George Claims J.K. Rowling Hates Men in Criticism Against Author
In his post on X, Boy George responded to a post that defended Pedro Pascal's criticism of Rowling's views on transgender rights.
"Stop this nonsense that if you don't agree with @jk_rowling you hate women. She hates men. This is where this truth lies. She cannot differentiate between a 'trans' woman and a biological male. Which is weird with her imagination?" he wrote.
Rowling responded to Boy George by writing, "I'm married to a man, George. I do not hate men. I simply live in reality where men - however they identify - commit 98% of sexual assaults, and 88% of victims are female. Trans-identified men are no less likely than other kinds of men to pose a risk to women or girls."
Dennis Noel Kavanagh, director of the Gay Men’s Network, also weighed in by siding with Rowling on the debate.
"Oh, come now George, be serious. This was not a matter of simple disagreement, he wrote 'Awful disgusting S**T is exactly right. Heinous LOSER behavior' on instagram. It was him who was vulgar and abusive, not her," he wrote.
Boy George responded, "But it's ok for young 'trans' kids to live in fear? Yeah, adults get to throw around mud but there are bigger consequences."
Boy George also defended Pascal's wearing of a "Protect the Dolls" shirt during a recent public event.
"That isn't what this tee shirt means at all. Anyway, cotton, even 100% has no opinion!" he wrote.
The Backlash Against J.K. Rowling
Rowling has been receiving a lot of backlash for the last few years over her anti-trans views.
As a result, the main trio stars of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint) have expressed their support for the trans community and condemned Rowling's stance on the trans community.
"To all the people who now feel that their experience of the books has been tarnished or diminished, I am deeply sorry for the pain these comments have caused you. I really hope that you don’t entirely lose what was valuable in these stories to you," Radcliffe wrote in an essay for the Trevor Project.
Stars such as Nicola Coughlan and David Tennant have also criticized Rowling's views on transgender rights.
Despite her controversial views, Rowling remains active in the industry as she is currently involved in the development of HBO's Harry Potter series.
