James Gunn has kickstarted the new DC Universe (DCU) with David Corenswet taking on the role of Superman. Since this means other characters from the old DC Extended Universe (DCEU) may be recast, the DC Studios co-CEO has addressed the possibility of Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn.

Superman has introduced audiences to the new Man of Steel, alongside a corporate Justice Gang instead of the traditional Justice League.

It’s also expected that a new actress will take on the role of Wonder Woman, replacing Gal Gadot, while Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in The Batman Part II. So, could Robbie also join the DCU?

Robbie first played Harley Quinn in the 2016 movie Suicide Squad and reprised the role in the 2020 film Birds of Prey. She also worked with Gunn on his own take of the villainous characters in 2021’s The Suicide Squad. So, will they collaborate again in the DCU?

“That will be revealed down the line,” Gunn told Entertainment Weekly.

While the filmmaker remains tight-lipped about Robbie’s possible return, he did reveal plans to bring back another Suicide Squad member: Bloodsport, played by Idris Elba.

“I definitely am always looking for a place to put Bloodsport and figuring that out,” he continued. “So we'll see what happens.”

So far, John Cena is confirmed to be part of the DCU, reprising his role as Christopher Smith in Peacemaker Season 2, set to release on August 21 on HBO Max.

If Cena is returning, Robbie’s appearance in the DCU may not be far behind.

Gunn, alongside DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, has launched the first phase of the DCU, called Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.

This phase includes a mix of live-action and animated projects, with Superman leading the charge. The next project is Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock, set to release on June 26, 2026.

It will be followed by the TV series Lanterns, focusing on Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart, also slated for early 2026.

A new version of Batman, different from Matt Reeves’ iteration, will be introduced in The Brave and the Bold. Additionally, the first DCU animated series, Creature Commandos, will return for a second season.

Gunn previously teased that fans need to watch Peacemaker Season 2, as it will essentially set the stage for the rest of the DCU.

Superman leads into this show, and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker—it’s incredibly important,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Lots of guest stars are coming up, lots of characters that we’ve already met in Superman are showing up. I don’t think there’s anything I’ve ever done that I love more than this season of Peacemaker, so I’m so excited for people to see it.”

With the DCU now fully interconnected, fans will need to watch Peacemaker Season 2 to see what’s in store for the franchise going forward.
