With the recent renewal announcement of HBO's hit series Task, one of the questions that fans have is whether Mark Ruffalo will be returning to star in the second season.
The crime drama series was well-received by critics and audiences when it premiered last September, with the first season finale ending up surpassing the ratings of the premiere episode. While the main storyline has seemingly wrapped, there were questions about whether the series will have another season and whether Ruffalo's Tom Brandis will be the main character once again.
Is Mark Ruffalo Returning to Star in Task Season 2?
Fortunately for fans, HBO confirmed that Ruffalo is indeed returning to star in Task season 2 and reprise the role of FBI Agent Tom Brandis.
The Emmy-winning actor recently negotiated a new deal to star in the next season, since the project was originally intended as a limited series before they decided to make it ongoing.
"We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have HBO’s unwavering support of Task from the very first script onwards, throughout production, and during their extraordinary launch of our first season to audiences," showrunner Brad Ingelsby said in a statement.
"They are an unmatched creative home. On behalf of the entire Task team, in front of and behind the camera, I am honored and excited to get back to work on a second season of our show."
There are no details yet on whether the other main cast members from the first season will also return in the second season.
What to Expect in Task Season 2
So far, the plot details regarding the second season of Task are still under wraps, since the writing process has not started yet.
In the first season, which is set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, Agent Tom Brandis heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man (played by Tom Pelphrey).
It is unknown yet whether the second season will focus on a new mission for the Task Force or if it will partly continue the storyline from the first season, which was resolved in the finale.
No release window has been set yet for the second season. If they manage to begin production next year, the second season will likely premiere sometime in 2027.
