House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel spinoff, premiered on August 21, 2022. Based on parts of George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood, the series is set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The show portrays the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen war of succession, known as the Dance of the Dragons.
All ten episodes of House of the Dragon Season 1 will be available to stream on HBO Max, but will it be available to stream on Netflix?
Is House of the Dragon coming to Netflix?
No. Game of Thrones fans who don't have an HBO Max subscription or HBO channel are probably wondering if House of the Dragon will arrive on Netflix. Unfortunately, just like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is an HBO original series that's only meant to be available for HBO and HBO Max, so don't expect it to arrive on Netflix.
It's highly-unlikely that HBO will give Netflix the license to stream House of the Dragon since the Game of Thrones TV show franchise is one of the network's most popular IPs. We've seen movies and TV shows leave HBO and HBO Max, but there's no reason for HBO to share its original content to other streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Paramount+, and Disney+.
So, the only official way you can watch House of the Dragon right now is on HBO and HBO Max. Of course, the entire series will likely be made available to purchase on Blu-ray and digitally in the future, but since the show is new, you will have to subscribe to HBO Max or have a cable service with the HBO channel.
