Hugh Jackman took his Wolverine comeback to the next level. Not only did the X-Men icon return in Deadpool & Wolverine donning Logan's comic-accurate suit, but he also surpassed his portrayal of the adamantium-enhanced mutant in the original Fox movies by looking more ripped than ever. Here's how he did it at 55 years old.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Deadpool and Wolverine co-star Ryan Reynolds, the Australian actor's body build flexing his muscles for Wolverine flashed on the screen, urging Ryan to ask how Jackman managed to jack up even at the age of 55.

"I did not work my ass off, I actually worked to get an a**," Jackman explained, recalling the time he was doing eight shows for Broadway's Music Man while eating 6000 calories a day for Deadpool 3, "I actually ripped my pants on stage, because I was doing some deadlifts."

Sometime in May this year, Jackman posted 2 parts of his workout routine involving deadlifting, EZ-bar curls for biceps, rowing on the Concept2 RowErg, and his love/hate relationship with food.

"I have to eat a lot," Jackman previously noted that while the workout process was 'good for the brain', the hardest bit of his preparation was chowing down 5-6 meals a day, "For me, for my body type, I'm naturally skinny. To get the size on, that's the bit that does my head in."

On his journey, The Greatest Showman star also marked an impressive record by rowing 2000 meters to reprise his role as the clawed mutant in less than 7 minutes, which is close to the gold standard for fitness.

He had a similarly intense workout preparing to be Wolverine in 2016, but there is no doubt that his newly transformed physique would go unacknowledged in Deadpool and Wolverine, especially since one particular scene highlighted his six-pack zoomed in waaay too close for the Merc to miss.
