After being corrupted by his Ring, King Durin III managed to overcome its influence and reconcile with his son.
However, as The Rings of Power Season 3 features a five-year time jump, fans are about to see a different Prince Durin IV after he unexpectedly ascended to the throne.
“Well, prior to that, a big thing happened in Khazad-dûm. Balrog killed my father, the bugger. So I am now without a father. I’m without a king. I’ve been promoted, albeit too soon, to being a king and looking out for everyone in Khazad-dûm,” Arthur told ScreenRant.
But aside from becoming king in an instant while still grieving the death of his father and handling his new responsibilities, he also has the Seven Rings made for the Dwarves in his possession.
Knowing how they corrupted his father, he now has to hide them from everyone, including his wife, Disa (Sophia Nomvete).
“I’ve got seven rings in my possession. I’ve kind of figured out they’re not a good thing at the moment,” Arthur added. “So I’m hiding them from everyone, even Disa, because I just don’t trust them because of what they did to my strong-headed father. It corrupted him.”
Knowing the curse the Rings bring, Durin will experience immense pressure as the Dwarf-lords search for them.
But that won't be the only challenge he will face when The Rings of Power Season 3 arrives. His only remaining close relative, his brother Thráin (Eddie Marsan), will also return to Khazad-dûm, where their father died.
“There’s some dwarf lords that come hunting for the rings. But also on top of that, my brother comes to the mountain as well, and him being the only family I have left, you know, it’s my brother, it’s my big brother,” Arthur continued.
As the new season is set to focus on Durin’s family, the actor teased there would be “loads of drama” ahead.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 will be about love and utter destruction amid the ongoing war.
During Prime Video’s San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel, the streamer dropped a new trailer for the highly anticipated season, focusing on the chaos the heroes and warriors must face in Middle-earth.
The footage begins with the smoldering embers and blackened lands of Mordor, as Sauron's voice (Charlie Vickers) says to his followers, “Now, is the mighty hour come,” as molten metal is poured into a familiar ring-shaped mold.
A cheerful Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) is then seen dancing with Celeborn (Jamie Campbell Bower), the Elf prince who is her new love interest and eventually becomes her husband in J.R.R. Tolkien’s books.
The next scene features an Orc warning Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) that everyone fears the Dark Lord, who is “on the brink of crafting... one Ring to rule them all.”
A series of scenes then weaves together new threats, from dragons and Ringwraiths carrying torches to the mysterious and powerful Dark Wizard (Ciarán Hinds), while a voice-over reveals that Sauron has “armies scarring Middle-earth.”
