Most fans probably didn't know this but there was a time when Hope van Dyne was supposed to be a part of Captain America: Civil War. Interestingly, Evangeline Lilly has revealed why Marvel decided to leave the Wasp out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.
Lilly was one of the several stars who was interviewed for the book Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years (via ComicBook.com). The Ant-Man and the Wasp actress shared how Hope was initially considered to join Scott Lang in the fight against Iron Man, an idea she didn't like.
"There was actually talk of me being in Captain America: Civil War, and I was a little bit worried about that because she would have been introduced in a story that has nothing to do with Hope or her first taking on the mantle of the Wasp. I would have been nervous and a bit disappointed that the first titled female Super Hero in the Marvel Universe wouldn't get an origin film."
Luckily, the studio decided that Hope deserved better. However, they were concerned that Lilly would be disappointed about not being in the Captain America sequel.
"Marvel Studios called me to say, 'We're not gonna use you in Civil War anymore.' and I thought, 'Woo-hoo! That's great!' They said, 'Let us explain, don't be upset – we really want to give her an origin film. We want to give her a full film and to really make a moment of this.' And I was way ahead of them already and very eager for that to happen!"
It's a good thing that Marvel Studios decided that Hope should have a better debut. Her first amazing action sequence in Ant-Man and the Wasp confirmed that a female superhero can truly dominate a comic book movie.
Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years is published by Titan and will be available starting November 20.
