HBO has revealed its new Hogwarts house designs for its upcoming TV adaptation of Harry Potter, and it looks like fans aren’t impressed.
The network unveiled the new logos for Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin at the Back to Hogwarts event on August 29 and 30 in Australia.

Compared to the house designs from the Harry Potter movies, HBO’s TV remake appears to be more minimalist, with much simpler emblems that show each house’s mascot surrounded by floral embellishments.
With their simplicity, which is far different from Warner Bros.’ iteration, fans can’t help but make fun of the designs in different posts on social media.
“Someone said this like the corporate version of the house crests and honestly... yeah i see it. In fact the whole series is the corporate version of Harry Potter,” the film production company Black Elk Productions wrote on X.
@martinmathien couldn’t help but compare the designs to “children’s art” and said they don’t resemble the sigils a 1,000-year-old magical institution like Hogwarts would use.
“The movies ones are way better,this ones looks so simple and boring....but well,minimalist i guess,” @Alvaro4634_45 added.
Lastly, @osencatholic called the modern house designs “bland and boring,” though they still praised HBO for finally getting the Ravenclaw mascot right.
For starters, the movies used a raven, while HBO features an eagle in the Ravenclaw emblem. The eagle is actually Ravenclaw’s animal in the books, making the house’s design more book-accurate, complete with blue and bronze colors instead of blue and silver.
That said, while the movie design looks more like a traditional coat of arms, HBO’s take appears to be more minimalist and natural.

This may mean that the series could run for 10 seasons if a new season is released every year. But while there are theories that Fantastic Beasts could be part of the series to complete the 10 seasons over 10 years, it has been asserted that this will not happen.
So, whatever the case may be, Bloys promised that their adaptation would be handled with the “full care and craft of this franchise.”
