It was recently announced that Rupert Grint will be reprising the role of Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child early next year.
The original film star will join the cast on February 2, 2027, and will have a 17-week limited engagement until May 30 at Lyric Theatre in New York City.
This will be the first time Grint plays his iconic Harry Potter role in more than 15 years since we last saw him as his iconic character in the final film installment, Deathly Hallows - Part 2. For the play, he will portray an older version, as it takes place 19 years after the last book.
"Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life. There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new," Grint said in the announcement.
"And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much of my life, is truly exciting. The first time I saw Cursed Child onstage, I was blown away, and I can’t wait to set foot back on platform 9 ¾ and pick up where I left off. I am overjoyed to join this exceptional cast and crew at the Lyric Theatre this winter."
For now, fans can anticipate the release of the HBO series adaptation of Harry Potter, which will retell the story of the J.K. Rowling novels for a new generation. None of the original main film stars are expected to be involved, except for Warwick Davis, who will reprise his role as Professor Filius Flitwick.
