HBO has built a school for the child stars of the Harry Potter TV series to attend for the duration of their filming in the next 8-10 years.
Earlier this week, production for the highly anticipated TV series adaptation of the J.K. Rowling book series finally started with a new cast playing the iconic characters in the Wizarding World. A first look photo of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter was also released.
Why Has HBO Built a School for the Child Stars of the Harry Potter TV Series?
According to Variety, HBO and Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden are building a temporary school that the child stars of the Harry Potter series can attend while filming.
Three Rivers District Council is permitting the studio to "use a series of portable buildings as a school facility for the next decade. The proposed classrooms have been designed to be used by up to 600 pupils during peak periods, when large crowd scenes are shot, but will typically serve about 150 students."
The temporary school "will operate on weekdays between 5:30 am and 8:30 pm so young actors can fit in their actual studies between night shoots, reshoots, and location filming.”
While the document did not specify the Harry Potter series by name, they noted that it is for a "significant new TV series which will base itself at the studio for the next eight to 10 years" and the "school infrastructure will be in place for a maximum period of 10 years."
Part of the cast of Harry Potter consists of numerous child actors such as Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and many more.
What to Expect in HBO's Harry Potter Series
HBO's Harry Potter TV series will cover the entire seven-book series by Rowling, and it is expected to run for the next decade.
The main cast includes Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, Arabella Stanton, John Lithgow, Nick Frost, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and more.
The three child actors who are playing the Golden Trio were chosen out of the 30,000 young actors who auditioned to play the trio. HBO launched the casting call last year.
Rowling is also involved as one of the executive producers of the series. She shared on social media that she has given approval to the scripts of the first two episodes.
The series is currently slated to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in 2027. The first season will reportedly have eight episodes.
