Paramount has renewed its live-action Halo TV series just over a month before the premiere of the first season. In a press release, Dave Weiner (who's work on shows like Brave New World, Homecoming, and The Walking Dead) will act as showrunner and executive producer for Season 2. This was announced during an investor event, where Viacom CBS also revealed that it's rebranding as Paramount as part of its focus on streaming.
Originally announced in 2013, with plans to release it on Showtime in 2015, the Halo TV show was delayed back multiple times before becoming a Paramount+ exclusive, and now this renewal might help pull in skeptical viewers who remember cancellations such as Netflix's live-action Cowboy Bebop. The project has already been in a long development process
Showtime Networks CEO David Nevins released a statement that could hype up more fans of the popular military sci-fi franchise: “This second-season pickup reflects the confidence we have in the power of this epic series to attract and engage viewers. HALO has been a great collaboration with Amblin and 343 Industries, and we are all grateful for the opportunity to continue it.”
Halo cast includes Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) as Master Chief, Jen Taylor as the voice actress of Master Chief's beloved A.I. assistant, Cortana, and Natascha McElhone (Californicaion) as Dr. Halsey.
