Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Actually Paid Tribute to Star-Lord's Comic Book Origins

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally gave Peter Quill the chance to reunite with his remaining family members on Earth. In addition to that, the sequel managed to pay tribute to Star-Lord's comic book family.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Star-Lord finally decided to leave the Guardians with Rocket Racoon as their new leader while he went back home to Earth to reconnect with his earthly relatives. This led to an emotional reunion with Grandpa Quill who had been looking for Peter all this time.

Interestingly, the film also revealed something new about Grandpa Quill. The sequel confirmed that Peter's grandfather's full name is Jason Quill.

Comic book readers were quick to note that the name Jason is a not-so-subtle reference to Star-Lord's father. In the comics, Peter Quill is the son of J'Son, the King of the Spartax planetary system.

Of course, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed Peter's origins, making him the son of the Celestial Ego and the human woman Meredith Quill. Still, the idea that Meredith's father is named Jason and that Grandpa Quill served as a father figure to the boy is a great nod towards J'Son.

Gregg Henry returned as Grandpa Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He originally portrayed the character in the 2014 movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 brings back Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sylvester Stallone from the first and second Guardians films.

Maria Bakalova, who debuted as Cosmo the Spacedog in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, also returns in the sequel.

Chukwudi Iwuji and Will Poulter join the Vol. 3 cast as the High Evolutionary and Adam Warlock, respectively.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now screening in theaters worldwide.
