For something that looks pretty frail, it is impressive to think the creature Gollum is well-travelled all over Middle-Earth.
Fans of the films would know just how treacherous the terrains of Gondor and Mordor are, but there are also a few reprieves.
It would be in the interest of the creature Gollum to avoid some of these places since everyone in Middle-Earth is hunting for it.
However, there are also places where it can rest to recover its energy and hunt for its Precious again.
Won't go: Barad-dur
Not one prisoner in their right mind would return to their own prison! Gollum escaped from Barad-dur in Mordor, where Sauron's forces tortured the creature to extract information about the One Ring.
By the skin of its teeth, Gollum has escaped near death from one of the most notorious structures in Mordor.
While Gollum lives to pursue its Precious another day, the creature bears unbearable trauma about the experience.
Would go: The Misty Mountains
Throughout its pursuit of the One Ring, Gollum returns to The Misty Mountains.
The caves and tunnels of the fortified mountain keep the creature safe from harm, and it knows the terrain like the back of its hand.
Gollum could elude quickly if it happened to pass by the Misty Mountains during pursuits against it.
Won't go: Minas Tirith
Minas Tirith is the bastion of civilisation among the Men of the West in Gondor.
This is why there is no chance that Gollum would have any interest in ever visiting the White City.
Laws are heavily exercised in Minas Tirith, and given the corruption it carries with it, Gollum might not get to set foot in the big city.
Would go: The Dead Marshes
The One Ring has rendered the creature formerly known as Smeagol at nearly half-life, so it would make sense that it finds comfort in The Dead Marshes.
This ghastly landscape was the site of Sauron's great battle against the alliance of Men and Elves.
The war was so atrocious that it exhumed some of the corpses that had been unnaturally preserved years ago.
Gollum takes advantage of this eerie fact by blending along with the corpses. No one would even dare to check!
Wouldn't go: Rivendell
Much like Minas Tirith, the Elves find Rivendell as a city and, more importantly, a haven.
The creature Gollum will be subject to Elven law should it set foot in the city; chances are, it might not end up well for it.
Would go: Mount Doom
While Gollum is a coward, its inner corruption is much stronger than the creature's own will.
The fires of Mount Doom are a lethal hazard to anything, but the creature Gollum will endure it just to reunite with its Precious, even if it means sinking beneath its flames.
Gollum's survival heavily relies on knowledge of the terrain in which it dwells.
This mastery and familiarity with the environment also prove how cunning and obsessed the creature formerly known as Smeagol is.
All to reunite with the ultimate evil, the One Ring.
