The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito recently weighed in on the future of the Disney+ series amid the production of the theatrical project.
Earlier this year, Lucasfilm officially announced that Din Djarin and Grogu are moving to the big screen for their next adventure in the galaxy far, far away. Production is currently ongoing ahead of its 2026 release.
However, fans are still wondering whether the Disney+ series will still move forward with a fourth season or it will simply continue through a series of films and not return to the small screen at all.
Giancarlo Esposito Comments on Future of The Mandalorian
During his recent appearance at The Mandalorian panel at L.A. Comic Con 2024, Esposito was asked whether he is open to playing Moff Gideon in a potential fourth season.
He responded that he would love to be part of a potential fourth season of the series, but he is unsure whether it will happen due to the theatrical project.
"Well, I would love to. I don't know much about what's going on. I know they're making a film. I don't know if they're going to return to the show or not, but anything is open," the actor said.
"And I certainly left the best opening ever for Moff Gideon to come back. I love it when you see a character go over the edge, but you don't quite know what happens."
Esposito also teased that he might still make more appearances as Moff Gideon despite his supposed death in the third season finale.
"I remember in our last season, when I came to set, I had a different haircut because I figured I was in prison for a while and had no moustache. And then before I started shooting Jon Favreau came down, he kind of looked at me, and he went, scratched his head. He went, no moustache? And I went, no moustache," he shared.
"And so it leaves it open with all of those clones that there's a possibility that Moff Gideon is still hiding out somewhere, waiting to come back and take over. I can almost guarantee it."
Hopefully, we will be able to hear more updates about the Disney+ series soon as fans are eager to hear Lucasfilm's plans for the future and they will no longer feel any uncertainty regarding what's about to come in the franchise.
