Game Of Thrones Bosses Finally Address Controversial Coffee Cup Blunder

There are so many reasons why Game of Thrones Season 8 is so unforgettable, like the emotional scene where Brienne of Tarth is finally knighted or Cleganebowl finally coming to life. However, the most unexpected and undoubtedly hilarious moment in the final season was the surprise cameo of a coffee cup.

So how did the coffee cup end up in Westeros? Although we don't have a good explanation for that, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have finally addressed the error. The executive producers recently spoke to Star Channel where they joked about why the cup ended up in the shot (via Watchers on the Wall).

"I think in Persian rugs it's tradition that you make a little mistake when making the rug, because only God can do anything perfect, so for us I guess that just was our [mistake]," Benioff said.

Weiss agreed. "That's why I put the coffee cup there. Conscious, concerted statement of our imperfection," he said.

Benioff continued by admitting that they were focused on the more important parts of the scene to notice the cup.

"We were concentrating so much on Daenerys and Jon Snow that we just didn't see this coffee cup right in the middle. So, at first I couldn't believe it, and then it was embarrassment; ‘how did we not see this coffee cup in the middle of the shot?'. And then, eventually, it was just funny. This one is just a mistake, and it's kind of funny to us now," he said.

We can all laugh about it now but there is little doubt that people were unhappy about the coffee cup's surprise appearance. Well, I don't know about you but the cup made me laugh the first time I saw it.

Hopefully, people can now move on from the coffee cup. Meanwhile, let's hope that Benioff and Weiss had learned something from their error.
