First Reactions To X-Men: Dark Phoenix Are Downright Disappointing

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to release later this week and the film's first reactions have finally made its way to social media. There's been a lot riding on Dark Phoenix – the film marks the end of the X-Men franchise under Fox Studios. Everyone's been hoping to see the franchise end with a bang, however, it seems like early reactions to the film don't seem like such a good sign.

Taking to Twitter, film critics have been posting their reactions to the X-Men franchise's last installment. The reviews describe the film as an underwhelming conclusion to the franchise, an unremarkable X-Men entry, a bore, and a generally disappointing films.

Check out some of the Tweets down here:

This is terrible news. The X-Men franchise that Fox built is coming to an end now that Disney has its hold of 21st Century Fox's film and television assets. Fans were hoping for a satisfying end.

Of course, critic reactions don't necessarily mean that the film will bomb at the box office. Dark Phoenix could still do well, though we're not quite sure that it will.

The film had a rocky production to begin with. Back in April 2017, 20th Century Fox announced that the seventh film in the X-Men franchise was finally moving forward, titling the project Dark Phoenix. The film was given a November 2, 2018 release date. Production began in summer 2017, however, in March of 2018, Fox announced that it was pushing the release date back to February 14, 2019. Then, the film was pushed back again to June 7, 2019. Word on the street says that the film had extensive reshoots – not a particularly good sign for the project.

Hopefully, fans still find some sort of satisfaction in Dark Phoenix.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix premieres this Friday, June 7, 2019.
