As much as Potterheads want out of this discussion, Harry Potter is indeed getting its reboot soon. Here is everything we know about the reboot.

Considering that the flagship franchise finished barely a decade ago, any fan of the Wizarding World would be completely against forming a reboot at this time. Check out what fans know so far about the reimagining.

The Harry Potter franchise is set to return to the small screens completely from scratch sometime in 2026, as per Variety.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav previously said on the company's Q4 earnings call that the series is expected to produce seven seasons, adapted from J.K. Rowling's best-selling fantasy novels.

It remains to be seen whether 2026 will be the official premiere of the show, especially since they're still casting the right kid actors for the TV version.

Harry Potter Fans are Not on Board with "Woke" Casting For Reboot

While the Wizarding World's original flicks didn't press much on the diversity of the cast, the upcoming Harry Potter series will.

According to HBO's casting call for the three stars, they are looking for children aged 9-11 by April 2025. The actors must be residing in the U.K. and Ireland and have the permission of their parents.

However, what gets some Potterhead's goat is more on the "woke" side of it all. Check out what HBO's casting call stated below:

"We are committed to inclusive, diverse casting," they wrote, "For every role, please submit qualified performers without regard to ethnicity, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated."

This did not sit well with fans, specifically those who grew up with Daniel Radcliffe as the titular scarred hero, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley.

However, as Dungey noted to Variety in January, they are still on the hunt on who the chosen showrunner will be "before having those [casting] conversations."

He added, "The tricky part is the first two books, where the kids are on the younger end, around 11 or 12."

Will J.K. Rowling and the Original Cast Be Involved in the Reboot?

As Zaslav previously mentioned, he and the HBO and Max heads Casey Bloys and Channing Dungey set a meeting with J.K. Rowling to discuss the reboot in London.

"We spent some real time with J.K. and her team," Zaslav said, "Both sides are just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn't be more excited about what's ahead. We can't wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max."

The original author has been confirmed to be on board as the executive producer of the series, as per Chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content Casey Bloys shared on The Hollywood Reporter.

As for the rest of the original cast members, the main stars have already spoken out against working with J.K. Rowling, the controversial author who continuously expresses her transphobic statements online.

When asked if he would be open to making a cameo on the show, Daniel Radcliffe said, "I'm definitely not seeking it out in any way," adding that he "wish them all the luck in the world" while expressing his excitement to "have that torch passed" without having him "physically pass it."
