Before achieving mainstream fame thanks to her involvement in Anyone But You and playing Madame Web's Julia Cornwall, Sydney Sweeney recently reflected on her past grievances with HBO's Euphoria before coming to terms with her career.
Sydney Sweeney's Euphoria Fame Impacted Her Career in More Ways Than One
As much fun as it is to gain fame and popularity from becoming Euphoria's Cassie Howard, the breakout star Sydney Sweeney admitted there was pressure in portraying the character on HBO.
"That's something I'm still trying to learn how to process and get better at. It's hard," she said, "I put so much of myself out there, but I'm still emulating a little bit of my character as well."
In the sense that both she and Cassie are passionate yet still innocent when it comes to pursuing what they want.
Apart from the love and support Cassie fans give, Sweeney's career had Anyone But You rumored affairs with co-star Glen Powell and being poked fun at for the box office failure of Madame Web, all of which she acknowledges is out of her control.
"Unfortunately, I don't get to control my image—my image is in your guys' hands." She then adds, "Hopefully, people realize how silly all the headlines are because, I mean, you know how this works."
However, here's what turned Sweeney's career around and led her to more autonomy than she realized she had.
Euphoria Star Rose to the Top When She Took Matters Into Her Own Hands
When asked how she had been dealing with the delays Euphoria season 3 faced, Sweeney shared she had to "pass on a few projects" to prioritize her return to the HBO show.
But because she managed to become a producer for several upcoming flicks, "I was able to say, 'You know what? I don't think this is happening. I'm going to put some of my own projects on the slate.'"
Sweeney explained that taking charge of it was what made Anyone But You happen in the first place.
At the time, her schedule for Euphoria kept having scheduling conflicts with another film she was doing. Since things were clearly not working out for both ends, she eventually decided, "I put in full gear to make Anyone But You."
Anyone But You and Immaculate happen to be the two major projects where Sweeney showed off her new title as executive producer.
The first became a box office hit grossing over $220M worldwide, while her horror flick gained $28.4M worldwide on a $9M budget, proving that she made the right decision to rise beyond her acting career.
