People are currently celebrating the fact that Kit Harington has been cast as Black Knight in The Eternals. However, there was almost a time when a Marvel Cinematic Universe film teased on Dane Whitman's arrival. A new report reveals that Doctor Strange had a Black Knight Easter Egg but chose to delete it from the final cut.
According to Screenrant, Doctor Strange almost introduced the Ebony Blade. The sword is the weapon of choice of the Black Knight, whose power comes from the mystical blade. Interestingly, the film was supposed to feature the sword as one of the weapons that were used against Kaecilus and his Zealots.
The report certainly had a lot of evidence to back it up. It points out that Marvel's prop team had actually constructed a model that would have shown up in Kamar-Taj. Barry Gibbs, who created the prop, confirmed that "the Ebony Blade was taken out of the script". Unfortunately, he was not aware of the reason.
Additionally, it was pointed out that a TV spot featured Tina Minoru picking up the Staff of One. The report states that Linda Louise Duan, the actress who played Tina, is known for her martial arts skills but doesn't have any action scenes in the theatrical release. This could confirm that Doctor Strange was heavily rewritten sometime during production.
Although it's disappointing that an awesome Easter Egg had to be cut out of the film, there is a huge chance that this was done so fans can see the Ebony Blade for the first time in The Eternals.
The Eternals is scheduled for release on November 6, 2020.
