Ever since Captain Marvel came out, a lot of fans have been curious when the MCU was going to get Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel. What's cool is, Marvel Studios is going to develop a Ms. Marvel series for Disney+, and production is set to begin sooner than expected.
According to Discussing Film, Disney+'s Ms. Marvel series is eyeing for a start on September 2020—that's exactly a year from now. We don't have any details on the cast or the story, but the showrunner is said to be Bisha K. Ali who was previously worked on Hulu's Four Weddings and a Funeral.
In the comics, Kamala is an inhuman who had the power to shift and stretch her body (or specific body parts) into any size. Besides her powers, probably the most interesting part about Kamala is that she's the first Muslim superhero for Marvel, and her day-to-day gives us an outlook on what it's like to grow up as a Pakistani-American.
A lot of people (myself included) were worried that Marvel was looking to sideline Kamala by giving her a series instead of a film, but hopefully things will be different now that Disney+ is a factor. With the Marvel Netflix heroes getting sidelined, I'm hoping Kamala actually gets her day in the big screen eventually.
No release date has been set for Ms. Marvel, but with a production start next year, we could be looking at a late 2021 release. The first Marvel show coming out on Disney+ is The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and it's set to air on the fall of 2020.
Disney+ launches on Nov. 12.
