With the release of the series finale of And Just Like That last night, fans are wondering whether Kim Cattrall made her return as Samantha Jones in the show's swan song.

The fan-favorite character has been notably absent throughout the Sex and the City revival's three-season run, and it was revealed that she moved to London before the events of the series. She made a brief cameo appearance in the second season finale, which delighted a lot of fans as they were glad that they were able to get a glimpse of where Samantha Jones is today.

Unfortunately, Cattrall did not reprise the role of Samantha Jones one last time in the series finale episode of And Just Like That, which premiered last night on HBO Max.

The character was neither mentioned nor appeared in archive footage, despite being featured in the very last episode of the Sex and the City franchise.

Some fans were hoping that Samantha Jones would make an appearance in the final episode, even if it's through a phone call, similar to her second-season finale appearance.

While she was absent from the show's final episode, Samantha appeared through text message earlier in the season when Carrie texted her about Duncan, and the two had a sweet exchange of banter just like the old days in the original series.

Is This Really the End of And Just Like That and the Sex and the City Franchise?

While And Just Like That has officially ended its run, some fans are still wondering whether this is truly the end of the Sex and the City franchise or if they might still revisit it in some capacity in the future.

In an interview with Variety, showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed once and for all that the series finale was the conclusion of both And Just Like That and the Sex and the City franchise overall.

"It is closed. Because I care so much about what we’ve done. And I got emotional not because of letting go of Carrie, but because of the people that care about Carrie. I just realized 'care' is in 'Carrie.' People care so much about her that I feel for them," he said.

"That she’s this hero in her late 50s, wearing a Hindenburg hat and eating sherbet in Washington Square Park. She’s made her mark, and, as a writer, I feel we’ve made our mark. I never thought once about continuing. Telling it like it is: It’s an instinct. Anyone else could keep going. I can’t."

The series ended with Carrie Bradshaw embracing her new chapter in life as a single woman.
