- Quick Answer: Ed Harris felt misled by Dutton Ranch producers after his expected main role felt "inconsequential" during filming, though watching it restored his confidence.
Ed Harris admitted recently that he felt disappointed by his role in the hit Paramount+ series Dutton Ranch.
The veteran Oscar-nominated actor is one of the main stars in the Yellowstone spinoff series, where he plays the role of Dr. Everett McKinney, a local veterinarian and a Vietnam War veteran. The first season finale aired earlier this month, and Paramount+ already renewed it for a second season, which will likely premiere next year.
Why Ed Harris Felt 'Misled' by Dutton Ranch About His Role

Speaking with Variety at the premiere event of his new film The Dink, Ed Harris candidly shared his thoughts on his role in Dutton Ranch.
He admitted that he felt "misled" as there was a promise that his character would have a larger role in the story of the series.
"Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do — and that I was one of the four main characters. And that wasn’t really the case," the actor said.
"I said, ‘I’m feeling underused and inconsequential,’ and they kind of went, ‘Oh.' I’m being told my character will have a little bit more to do [in Season 2]. I was just a little frustrated, to tell you the truth."
He was so disappointed with his role in the series that he told his team to "get me the f*** out of here" halfway through the filming of the first season.
However, once he watched the series, he thought that it was "pretty good" and felt that this character is "relatively important to the story."
It remains to be seen whether Harris will still return in the second season, although his contract for the series covers two seasons.
