Did Cierra Ortega get kicked off mid-show? The dating competition on Love Island USA season 7 had been smooth sailing until news about Cierra's controversy resurfaced on the Internet. Here's what we found out.
What Happened to Cierra on Love Island USA? Did She Get Kicked Off?
Cierra had been one of Love Island USA's original cast members in the villa until she was abruptly removed from the show during episode 30, which aired on Sunday, July 6.
As the episode hit the 16-minute mark, the narrator, Iain Stirling, announced, "Cierra has left the villa due to a personal situation," without further explanation. However, the show didn't even film Cierra's exit. So, what's going on?
Well, news flash: Cierra Ortega didn't leave the show; the show left her. While Peacock has yet to provide an official statement regarding her status, the 25-year-old's problematic online behavior recently resurfaced.
Cierra has allegedly used a racial slur in one of her social media posts, which most likely led producers to instantly remove her as one of their contestants.
As the now-deleted post read: "I am incredibly expressive with myself," about how she looked natural despite getting Botox, before dropping the slur, "I can also be a little c****y when I laugh/smile, so I love getting a mini brow lift to open up my eyes and get that snatched look."
Eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot this and called out the producers to remove her from the show. According to the US Sun report, the Love Island USA execs are holding "crisis meetings" to determine Cierra's fate, but essentially, "Cierra is in deep trouble, that is for sure."
Have Cierra's Parents Said Anything About Their Daughter Yet?
Cierra may have been lying low from the online world for now, but her parents took a stance via their daughter's Instagram Story, saying, "As Cierra's parents, this has been one of the most painful weeks of our lives."
The letter detailed that they are not "justifying or ignoring what [re]surfaced", but the "threats, cruel messages and attacks on her family, friends, even supporters" are "heartbreaking" and "uncalled for."
Until then, Cierra and her family are simply asking for "compassion", "patience", and "basic human decency" for "everyone caught in the middle of this."
Cierra's exit is the second time Love Island USA has had to remove a contestant from the show's run, marking Yulissa Escobar as the first.
Yulissa, on the other hand, was removed just days after the season 7 premiere for using a racial slur on multiple podcasts.
Love Island USA season 7 airs every day except Wednesdays on Peacock. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
