Hugh Jackman had famously said goodbye to the Wolverine role back in 2017, but some fans apparently want to get him back in the claws. Jackman had said that he thinks the fans don't want to see his Wolverine crossover with Deadpool, to that Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld penned this open letter to him.
Check it out:
It's worth noting that behind-the-scenes, Ryan Reynolds and Jackman have developed this sort of "frien-emy" relationship, and have been bantering with each other about their characters online. Though I think the Deadpool franchise has a long life ahead of it, I do stand on the opposite of Liefeld when it comes to bringing Jackman back.
For one, it's been rumored heavily that Dark Phoenix will be closing the X-franchise, and with that, everyone is thinking that Marvel Studios will be stepping in to reboot all the X characters—Wolverine included. With Jackman returning, I just get the feeling that this would be a step backward when it came to the X-Men.
Plus, it would be retconning the fantastic send-off that was Logan.
Personally, I think holding on to Jackman playing the character would be a mistake. Though he did make the role his own, his Wolverine isn't very comic-accurate to the Logan fans have known on paper. With a reboot, Marvel has the opportunity to pull off another Spider-Man: Homecoming and give us some comic-accurate X-characters. Bring in the short and gruff Wolverine from the 90s!
No release date has been set for Deadpool's next movie, X-Force.
