Who Is Sensei in No Longer Allowed in Another World?
Sensei is the main protagonist of the isekai anime No Longer Allowed in Another World. He is a writer who, in the very first episode of the series, decides to die by suicide with his apprentice/lover, Sacchan.
When they’re about to drown themselves in a nearby river, the Otherworld Truck-kun appears and seemingly hits them together.
Sensei then woke up in a fantasy world where dragons and magic exist. He discovered that he was chosen as a hero from the other world to save the fantasy world with his unique powers and abilities.
Instead of agreeing to become the hero and fulfill his duties, Sensei is motivated to find Sacchan and continue their attempt to die together.
Along the way, Sensei encounters new friends and foes who try to get in his way of finding Sacchan!
So, Is Sensei Based on Osamu Dazai? What We Know So Far
The official website of No Longer Allowed in Another World doesn’t mention that Sensei is based on the renowned author, Osamu Dazai, who died by suicide with a woman in the past.
However, Sensei’s character has a striking resemblance to Dazai, especially his desire to find the perfect place to die with his lover or apprentice.
Sensei’s deep-seated melancholy, conflicted relationship with societal norms, and acute awareness of the fragility of human existence also echo the traits often attributed to Dazai himself.
Historically, Dazai died by suicide with his lover, a woman named Tomie, by drowning themselves in the waters of the Tamagawa Reservoir in Tokyo in 1948.
This incident bears a resemblance to the first episode of the anime, where Sensei and Sacchan tied a red string to their hands in their attempt to die by suicide until the Otherworld Truck-kun appeared and transported them into the isekai world.
Meanwhile, the fandom page of No Longer Allowed in Another World, otherwise known as Isekai Shikkaku, lists the real name of Sensei as Osamu Dazai, the melancholic and tormented author who would quite literally prefer to drop dead than continue his adventures in the isekai world.
