Borderlands Movie Being Helmed by Hostel Director Eli Roth

Did you know that a Borderlands movie is being developed? Interestingly, the planned film based on the Gearbox video game may have found a director and it's none other than horror filmmaker Eli Roth.

The update comes from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford who tweeted about Roth's involvement in the Borderlands movie. Check it out below.

"I'm very excited to welcome Eli Roth as Director of the Borderlands movie in development with Lionsgate and Arad Productions. Please welcome @EliRoth to the team and be sure to catch the @GearboxOfficial Main Theater Sow at #PAXEast on 2/27 to learn more," Pitchford wrote before adding the hashtag #borderlandsmovie.

Roth has since confirmed his involvement with the Borderlands film and expressed his excitement over being a part of the project.

"So excited to be part of the @Borderlands family! Thank you @GearboxOfficial @Lionsgate @DuvalMagic, @picturestart, Arad Productions and everyone for welcoming me in. See you on Pandora!" Roth wrote. He also released an official statement (via The Hollywood Reporter).

"I'm so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands, and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team and studio. I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate — I feel like we have grown up together and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition," Roth said.

The screenplay for the Borderlands film will be written by Craig Mazin. Avi and Ari Arad of Arad Productions will co-produce alongside Erik Feig of Picturestart.

For now, the premise of the movie has not yet been revealed. In addition to that, there has been no casting news yet considering that the project is still in its early stages. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
