Black Widow Confirmed To Be Set After Events Of Captain America: Civil War

It looks like Marvel's upcoming Black Widow movie is definitely going to take place after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

There have been a lot of questions about the place that Scarlett Johansson's first standalone would hold in the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since Black Widow's heartbreaking decision to sacrifice herself to obtain the Soul Stone in Avengers: Endgame. Though the movie has been described as a prequel film, fans weren't quite sure at what point the events of Black Widow would be placed.

Now, thanks to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, fans know what point the MCU timeline Black Widow is going to be placed. In her discussion with the entertainment news outlet, Johansson reveals that her very first Marvel standalone movie is going to take place directly after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

For those who can't quite remember the events in the film, Civil War ended with Natasha going into hiding to help Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Black Widow is going to explore that period of time between Civil War and Infinity War, as well as certain aspects of the super spy's past.

"I know her better than anybody. What was her childhood like? What is her relationship to figures of authority? This character is gritty and multi-dimensional but has a lot of trauma and has led an unexamined life. In order to operate at this elite level, she has probably had to push away a lot of stuff," the actress told the publication.

It looks like we're going to go deeper into the background of one of Marvel's most popular characters. We can't wait and see what the studio has in store for everyone.

Black Widow is set to kick off Phase 4 of the MCU when it premieres on May 1, 2020.
