Black and White Snyder Cut Justice are Gray Edition is confirmed for a go as confirmed by none other than Zack Snyder himself in an interview with Minutemen. More than the upcoming Snyder Cut release on HBO Max, the film will be having its special edition in black-and-white and it will be called Zack Snyder's Justice League: Justice is Grey edition.
Zack Snyder's Justice League is the version called for by the fans with #ReleaseTheSnyderCut for years and after the long wait, they have finally reached the victory that the film has now been given the chance to see the light of day.
The controversy of Zack Snyder and his departure while halfway through the production of the film speaks volumes on creative differences as the production company and the director did not share the same creative vision for the film. Joss Whedon was placed as the director of Justice League that had its theatrical release in 2017.
Snyder himself acknowledged the fact that Justice League Snyder Cut is not canon and the theatrical release, the version of Joss Whedon is the one that is. Canon or not, the clamor of the fans were still given respect and now that the Snyder Cut is arriving in a few hours, Snyder says that he understands the frustration of the fans as he is, too, but that it's not his call to take, not his decision to make.
Still, his version of Justice League sure is worth watching as it is an entirely different film as compared to the theatrical release in 2017. Zack Snyder's Justice League and Joss Whedon's Justice League differ so much that only 10% to 15% of Snyder's version made it to the big screens.
Not only did the scenes of Snyder did not make it to the theaters, but his perspective on the aesthetic of the film also did not make it through as well. Now that Justice League Snyder Cut is only a few hours away from release, it will feature his very own personal touch: the film will be in a 4:3 aspect ratio throughout which means that its cut would not be fit for widescreen as it is intended to be that way.
The trailers have shown this aspect ratio and it is no accident as the director himself chose that size in his perspective of the film filling up the 1.43:1 IMAX screen. Snyder shares that superheroes are more often less horizontal which is the reason why he wanted to put the big squares back for different quality and aesthetic.
Justice League Snyder Cut: Justice is Gray
It is no surprise that various film posters and photos circulating on social media are in black-and-white. Zack Snyder shared before that his ideal version of the film would be an IMAX experience in black-and-white calling it the "most fan-centric, most pure, most Justice League experience."
Because of this, he has confirmed himself in an interview with Minutemen that the film will be having a special edition called Justice is Gray which will be the total black-and-white version of the Snyder Cut. Given that his film faced overwhelming odds, might as well give it his all and render the whole film in his very ideal version.
