The various Berserk anime adaptations haven’t exactly been well-received by fans, so in response, a new anime is being made by passionate fans. Following a teaser back in October 2023, Studio Eclypse finally shared the Berserk: The Black Swordsman official trailer that also revealed its 2025 release window.
This new trailer is a long and meaty one as it’s over three minutes long and features lots of footage that promises to delight long-time fans of the series.
Given its popularity, it’s no surprise that many Berserk fans are already buzzing about the project and can’t wait for it to be released.
Berserk: The Black Swordsman Release Date Predictions
It’s fair to say that Kentaro Miura’s Berserk is one of the most beloved manga of all time, and it’s also one of the most influential.
After all, the manga has become a major dark fantasy touchstone, with its influence even extending to shonen titles such as Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen.
Thus, it’s a shame that the series’ anime adaptations had mixed responses from fans, with the newer adaptations getting criticized for stiff 3D animation.
Now though, Studio Eclypse is working on a new Berserk anime made with 2D animation. You can check out a preview of it here:
To be exact, this trailer is for the show’s first episode, which is currently in pre-production and set to be released sometime in 2025.
As this anime is being made by a team of passionate fans, it’s probably going to be a while before it gets released, with a mid-2025 release being likely.
When 2025 rolls in, you should also expect that one episode will be released instead of a full series given that this is not a sanctioned adaptation.

The Black Swordsman Is not an Official Berserk Anime
Both the Berserk anime from the 90s and the 2016 CG series were official adaptations. That is not the case with The Black Swordsman, as this is purely a fan-made work.
Even the trailer’s introduction mentions this fact, stating that fans should still support the official releases of the Berserk manga and anime.
This is not the first project from the fan group Studio Eclypse, as the team has also shared a trailer for an Attack on Titan ending remake titled Requiem.
As Eclypse’s projects are unofficial, it’s not clear if there will be issues with them when it comes to copyright upon release. For now, though, the trailers are still up on the studio’s website.

What Will the Fan-Made Berserk Anime Be About?
Based on the pilot episode’s trailer, The Black Swordsman will start from the beginning of the manga instead of picking up in the middle part.
As only one episode will be released in 2025, this will likely only cover the first chapter, or at least the first three.
