Avengers Star Scarlett Johansson Finds Herself In Another Major Controversy After Defending Contentious Roles

It looks like Marvel star Scarlett Johansson's found herself in some major controversy again.

The Avengers: Endgame star was recently featured in AS IF Magazine's cover story (via Vulture), and Johansson gave a pretty contentious quote regarding her decision to take on controversial roles. Not only was the actress previously on fire for deciding to play the role Major Motoko Kusanagi in the live-action adaptation of the anime classic, Ghost in the Shell, but she also found herself being blasted for her role in Rub & Tug.

Now, Johansson's response has the internet riled up again.

"You know, as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job," Johansson told the publication. "I feel like it's a trend in my business and it needs to happen for various social reasons, yet there are times it does get uncomfortable when it affects the art because I feel art should be free of restrictions. I think society would be more connected if we just allowed others to have their own feelings and not expect everyone to feel the way we do."

Netizens aren't too happy with the quote. Not only are some bashing the actress for feeling "entitled to take roles away from Asian, Trans and other underrepresented actors," but fans on Twitter are also rallying against Johansson, saying that they'll no longer support the actress' future projects, including Black Widow 2.

We're not sure how this might affect Johansson's future projects, but we hope it might not cost the actress' upcoming standalone movie.
