Joe and Anthony Russo's big battle sequence in Avengers: Endgame might have been pretty epic on its own as it gathered all of Marvel's different heroes in one major battle against Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his army, but it turns out that the fight was supposed to look even bigger with a huge aerial action sequence initially set for the film.
Guardians of the Galaxy star Sean Gunn just recently spoke with Screen Rant during Marvel's "I Love you 3000" tour, and during the discussion with the entertainment news outlet, the Marvel actor revealed that the studio had actually prepared an aerial action sequence for Endgame.
"All I can tell you is really what we shot. Obviously, some of the fragment footage was cut from the final battle for good reason," James Gunn's brother told the site, "From a narrative standpoint, they didn't want to cut to the Battle of the Sky, which makes sense, but I all I can say is that Kraglin was wearing his fin. He had the Yaka arrow on him, but it was sheathed and remained sheathed. So, I think all of that qualifies as canon, and the rest of it is up to anyone to speculate on that one."
For those who haven't been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe Sean Gunn appears in the Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise as Kraglin, a Ravager who comes as Yondu's (Michael Rooker) second in command. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Kraglin inherits Yondu's Yaka, so it makes sense that we would see him wearing Yondu's fin in the big aerial action sequence.
It's such a shame that the scene got cut –probably because it would interfere with the film's main story. Still a shame though.
Avengers: Endgame is available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
