There's an interesting new theory floating around about Thanos and Captain Marvel in Avengers: Endgame.
Carol Danvers is currently one of the strongest heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and even Thanos apparently knows it.
CBR posits that the villain may have been preparing for his inevitable confrontation with Captain Marvel. The site speculates that he may have heard about her existence from Ronan the Accuser, who he was colluding with in Guardians of the Galaxy. You will remember he there when Captain Marvel singlehandedly brought hell down on an entire fleet of Kree aliens.
It is not much of a stretch to think that Ronan the Accuser told Thanos about an incredibly powerful superhero that can mess everything up for the both of them. Not only did this help the baddie prepare for his plan, the information most definitely pointed him to the direction of the tesseract's location, thanks to Captain Marvel's display of strength.
In The Avengers, Thanos sent Loki to Earth and armed him with the mind stone to retrieve the tesseract. Why didn't he do it himself or at least send a trusted underling like he did in Infinity War? CBR speculates that this is because it was only a test mission.
He wasn't expecting Loki to succeed. He wasn't counting on it at all. The real win for The Mad Titan is to be able to gather more information about how big a threat Captain Marvel is to his plans.
Considering how powerful she could end up being, he didn't want to risk himself or any valuable member of his team, so he sent Loki to do it, which goes to show that he is no more than cannon fodder to him.
As a result, the test run gave him an idea on what Earth's line of defense was and that Captain Marvel apparently was no longer there to protect the planet. He definitely made the right call because when the time came for himself to go there in Avengers: Infinity War, he accomplished what he wanted without any interference by the hero. Do you think there could be any truth to this theory?
