Avengers: Endgame star Scarlett Johansson may have stumbled on some controversy this year, but it looks like the actress remains as the highest-paid female actor in Hollywood.
Forbes just recently wrote a list of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood this year and, according to the news site, Johansson still sits comfortably in her first place with the $56 million that she earned in 2019. Much of that $56 million came from Johansson's Marvel Studios projects, most especially from Avengers: Endgame.
This shouldn't come as a surprise to fans. Endgame is, by all means, the biggest Marvel movie of the year. Not only did the film enjoy positive reviews from fans and critics, but it also did extremely well at the box office. After the second run in cinemas, the film managed to beat Avatar to become the highest-grossing film of all time in Hollywood history.
Endgame was a commercial success for Marvel, and like her co-star Robert Downey Jr., Johansson enjoyed that success with a back end deal that allows her a percentage of the film's profits. The actress managed to earn about $35 million of the $2.8 billion that Endgame earned at the box office – and rightfully so, considering the role she played in the movie.
Johansson also reportedly received an eight-figure salary for her upcoming Black Widow standalone movie, a project which is set to premiere early next year. According to Forbes, that project helped add to her $56 million haul.
The only question now is whether Johansson will remain at the top of the list even when she exits the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the release of her Black Widow movie.
Black Widow premieres May 1, 2020.
