Avengers: Endgame Director Says That Captain America Almost Took Out Thanos

It might have taken a lot of team effort to take down Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his army in Avengers: Endgame but it seems like one hero was pretty close to defeating the Mad Titan on his own.

Avengers: Endgame was released on Digital HD last week and the commentary track of the film gives fans a lot of insight about the different scenes in Marvel's biggest film of the year. In the commentary track, fans get to learn about Endgame's different secrets from directors Joe and Anthony Russo and from screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

During the end of the film and its commentary track, Joe Russo freely noted that Thanos was actually almost killed by Captain America (Chris Evans).

"Now, he really knows how to use this thing," McFeely said, commenting on how Captain America used Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) hammer to bring down a force of electricity while batting his shield.

Steve Rogers has a lot of fighting skill. Add Thor's Mjolnir to that, and we have a pretty powerful Captain America- one that almost takes down Thanos.

"We learn in Civil War that Cap is one of the most expert fighters," Joe Russo said. "When Friday tells Tony that he can't beat Cap hand-to-hand. Now we get to see what a powered-up Cap looks like against Thanos. And he almost takes him."

Thanos may have ultimately gotten the upper hand during the match, but Captain America sure did give the Mad Titan a run for his money – more than Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) did during the opening act of Avengers: Infinity War.

Avengers: Endgame is now available on Digital HD and hits Blu-Ray on August 13, 2019.
