Fans of the 2019 cyborg will be happy to know that plans for a sequel to the CGI movie is in the works.
This was revealed by the producer of the movie, Alita: Battle Angel, during the London World Premiere for Avatar: The Way of Water. Deadline asked Jon Landau about future plans of the film and he answered:
"Well there's a little film called Alita: Battle Angel which we'd love to circle back and do a sequel to, and I've been talking to Robert [Rodriguez] about that and hopefully that comes to fruition."
Although nothing definite has been revealed, this is still good news for the its avid fans. Here's what we know about the sequel right now:
When Will Alita: Battle Angel 2 Possibly Be Released?
Alita: Battle Angel is a sci-fi CGI film based on a Japanese Manga of the same title. The 2019 movie was written and produced by James Cameron and directed by Robert Rodriguez. Even though the movie was praised for its visual effects, a sequel was believed to be unlikely due to the reviews it got and its average performance at the box-office.
But with Landau's recent interview, fans are pretty hopeful about their plans for a sequel.
When asked when we could expect the sequel to release, Landau said: "I never put a timeframe on anything because you guys will hold it against me."
What Is Alita: Battle Angel About?
Alita: Battle Angel follows the life of a cyborg named Alita (played by Rosa Salazar) who was raised by Dr. Ido (played by Christoph Waltz) in Iron City. Although she has little knowledge of her past, she slowly unearths her background and mission through Motorball, a battle-royale style game. Not to mention, she is hunted by bounty hunters and Vector (played by Mahershala Ali).
What Could Alita: Battle Angel 2 Story Be About?
Since the first film had an open ending, there's plenty of room to explore for a sequel. And right now, we don't know yet what that story could be. But we're hopeful that the producers will create a story that will be even better than the first.
You can watch the trailer of the first movie here to remind you of the story.
We'll update this post once more information about the movie gets released.
