It has been over a year since the premiere of Alita: Battle Angel and yet there are no updates on whether the film is actually getting a sequel. However, that doesn't mean that we won't be seeing more of Alita in the future. A new report suggests that Disney is already considering a second film that will follow the cyborg in her quest to seek vengeance against Nova.
People have been craving for an Alita: Battle Angel sequel especially since fans couldn't stop raving about the film. On the other hand, the movie wasn't exactly a huge box office success, leading to speculations that 20th Century Fox might not want to gamble on the follow-up. Additionally, the property was soon acquired by Disney through the Fox acquisition and there have been reports that the House of Mouse isn't prioritizing the project. However, things may have changed since then.
The report from We Got This Covered purports that Disney is now considering the Alita sequel due to strong video sales. In addition to that, the House of Mouse has noticed that the film's fanbase is eager for a second film and believe it could boost ticket sales after COVID-19.
It's awesome to know that Disney already has its eyes on a follow-up to last year's Alita. However, it is also important to point out that there has been no official announcement just yet. With that in mind, it's best to take this with a grain of salt.
Alita: Battle Angel was directed by Robert Rodriguez and starred Rosa Salazar as the titular cyborg. The film was produced by Avatar director James Cameron.
