Solo: A Star Wars Story was released in May 2018. The film starred Alden Ehrenreich as a younger version of the iconic Han Solo character. Anticipation for the film was high, but this epic biopic struggled at the box office, becoming the first financial disappointment in the Star Wars franchise.
The film faced numerous problems leading up to the release, which may have had its part in the film becoming the box office bomb.
Recently, Ehrenreich was asked about the possibility of returning as Han Solo in future Star Wars projects. While promoting his role in Marvel Studios' Ironheart at D23, he shared his thoughts on reprising the role.
Alden Ehrenreich Is Open to Portraying the Right Version of Han Solo
In a recent interview, Alden Ehrenreich shared his sentiment on returning to the Star Wars universe as Han Solo.
While promoting his upcoming role in Ironheart, Ehrenreich said that he is not entirely opposed to revisiting the character that made him a household name among Star Wars fans. However, he made it clear that his return would depend on whether the character's portrayal aligns with the version he believes is true to Han Solo.
In the previous iteration, Alden portrayed the younger version of the captain of the Millennium Falcon and one of the great leaders of the Rebel Alliance. The film is a space Western that tells the origin of Han Solo and Chewbacca, set ten years before the events of A New Hope. The film follows Han as he joins a heist within the criminal underworld, introducing iconic characters like Lando Calrissian along the way.
The helm was taken by Ron Howard following the original directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller split over creative differences. Howard reshot more than 70% of the film. Nevertheless, the film features some glorious names of Hollywood fame, including Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Donald Glover.
Whether the sequel to this story happens and Alden returns as Han Solo remains to be seen. However, the disastrous commercial result of the first film doesn't bring much hope.
