The Acolyte has just wrapped up its first season, and while fans are waiting for an update on the next series, Skeleton Crew, Lucasfilm has released a preview for one of their more kid-friendly—but otherwise canon—properties.
A new trailer has just been dropped for the second season of Young Jedi Adventures, and there have been some Easter Eggs spotted that reference the larger Star Wars universe.
For context first, here’s the trailer:
The official synopsis reads:
“Star Wars: Young Jedi Advetures” Season 2 follows the younglings as they continue their training and embark on even bigger missions across the galaxy. Helping to lead the younglings on these missions is Master Zia’s new Padawan, Wes Vinik, and his astromech RO-M1. As they continue their training and grow in the ways of the Force, the young Jedi will travel to new planets with new and old friends and encounter adversaries like The Ganguls, who are growing in their pirate ranks…”
Captain Blackbolt is Voiced by Someone Familiar
Since the Sith don’t exist around this timeline yet, the Jedi are often pitted against other kinds of nefarious characters—like space pirates. In Season 2 of Young Jedi Adventures, Kai and his friends will be going up against a character named Captain Blackbolt.
Blackbolt’s backstory isn’t entirely clear yet, but he’s either a creature with cybernetic enhancements or a full-on rogue droid. What’s interesting is, Blackbolt is voiced by Corey Burton, who Clone Wars fans will recognize as the voice of Cad Bane.
It’s possible that it’s Blackbolt who runs The Ganguls, and it will be up to Kai and friends to stop him.
“Are Those Fathiers?”
Fathiers first appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and they were introduced as a kind of horse/goat hybrid that ran races for the audiences of Canto Bight.
In the teaser, it looks like the Fathiers are being poached, and it will be up to Kai and friends to stop it. This actually adds to the story of the Fathiers who were also being abused on the racetracks when Finn and Rose spotted them. It wouldn’t be surprising if these were also on their way to Canto Bight to run races for the rich and powerful.
Electrowhips and Electrostaffs
Very few weapons could go up against Jedi lightsabers, and Revenge of the Sith introduced a new kind of weapon in the form of the Electrostaffs. The series’ main antagonist Taborr uses an electrostaff when he fights, but based on the Season 2 trailer, there could be a variant to with an electrowhip.
It looks just like a regular whip, but it has the same kind of energy that emanates from an electrostaff.
It’s also worth noting that since this is the High Republic era, The Acolyte’s Vernestra Rwoh pretty much exists, and her lightsaber is special in that it also takes the form of a whip. Maybe the electro-whip could be a reference to Vernestra’s weapon, but weapons with purple electricity coming from them are usually bad news for anyone wielding a lightsaber.
Watch out for Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures when it premieres on Disney+ on August 14!
