Your Name (or Kimi no Nawa) is considered by many to be one of the finest anime films ever made, managing to balance comedy, romance, drama, and time travel in a nice, entertaining package. This is why many are skeptical over the upcoming live-action remake from Hollywood, even with J.J. Abrams in the producer's chair. Now, we know who will be directing the live-action remake and it's also going to get a mixed reaction.
From geeks at least.
Deadline has announced that Marc Webb from The Amazing Spider-Man will be directing this anime adaptation. This is going to freak some people out but remember, he did also direct 500 Days of Summer, which was a very good romantic comedy. Hell, the best part about both Amazing Spider-Man movies was the romance between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, so this is actually a decent choice.
Here's what original Your Name producer Genki Kawamura had to say about choosing Webb:
In this reimagined version of Your Name, a young Native American woman living in a rural area and a young man from Chicago discover they are magically and intermittently swapping bodies. When a disaster threatens to upend their lives, they must journey to meet and save their worlds.
Your Name has no release date. The original anime film can be purchased on Blu-Ray and digital services.
