Yellowstone is set to air its final episode this Sunday, but it won't be the franchise's end as a spinoff series that will continue the flagship's story is currently in the works.
Since the announcement of Kevin Costner's exit and officially declaring season 5 as its final chapter, there have been reports that Paramount is working on a spinoff that will continue the Dutton saga.
Who is Returning to the Yellowstone Spinoff Series?
Reports have confirmed that Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) have closed a deal to star in the untitled Yellowstone spinoff series.
There is a possibility that other cast members from the flagship series will also return in the spinoff, but the details are still early for that.
The upcoming series finale will give fans an idea of who could return and what might happen in the spinoff, but we can now expect Beth and Rip to survive the events.
Taylor Sheridan is also expected to continue his duty as the writer/showrunner of the spinoff series. The DNA of the flagship series will also be carried over the spinoff.
This ends all the speculations about the future of the flagship series in the aftermath of Costner's exit as we know now that the Dutton saga will continue for years to come with Beth now carrying the main torch.
What to Expect in the Final Episode of Yellowstone?
As most fans of the series already know, the final episode is set to air its Sunday, December 15.
Sheridan will be directing the super-sized finale which reportedly has a whopping runtime of 1 hour and 26 minutes. It will also be the showrunner's only directorial work in the final season.
The exact plot details regarding the finale are mostly vague aside from the logline: "The fate of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is revealed."
Fans can expect a resolution to the final season's storyline/mystery surrounding the death of John Dutton and the future of the family's estate after his shocking demise as well as clues on what could be the main focus of the spinoff series.
