Following two parallel storylines about a young, all-girl soccer team whose plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness in the mid-’90s, the series has yet to reveal what really happened to the teenage girls, how they managed to return to their families, and what awaited them on the other side.
Thankfully, after three seasons and five years of waiting, fans will finally get answers to these questions in Yellowjackets Season 4.
What Will Happen in Yellowjackets Season 4?
The Yellowjackets Season 3 finale set up the upcoming Season 4 with a deadly civil war, with Taissa (Tawny Cypress) and Misty (Christina Ricci) now targeting Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) for elimination.
The remaining survivors have also succumbed to their dark wilderness trauma, with Taissa relapsing into cannibalism and the group becoming fractured, much like they were when they were young.
With all of this happening, co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson tease a “big payoff” in the final season.
“We’re so happy we got here because, to us, this is the big payoff,” Lyle told Entertainment Weekly.
“We’ve spent three seasons with the before and the much after, but through bridging that gap of these characters and how they transitioned from who they were before they crashed, and who they were while they were out there, to who they became, was just so juicy in terms of character, and we wanted to spend as much time there as humanly possible.”
Nickerson added, “Once those systems have come online, how do you turn them off when food is in a supermarket, when there are parents with thoughts and feelings, and just the very rigid nature of society?”
What to Expect From Yellowjackets Season 4?
A lot has already happened in Yellowjackets during its first three seasons, from heinous acts in the wilderness to cannibalism and more, and all these experiences affected the girls into adulthood.
But as the show has yet to reveal what their return actually looked like, fans may finally witness how it happened in Season 4.
Of course, this is also expected to feature family reunions, revelations, different emotions, and how the survivors acclimate back into society.
As the third season revealed, the teen survivors have finally been rescued and are on their way to New Jersey after years of trauma, cold, and ritualistic hunting.
However, not every homecoming is a happy one, as their return will surely be more complicated as they face hot showers, emotional parents, and the challenge of hiding what really happened.
The rescue may not mean total freedom for the girls, as the darkness and psychological scars of the wilderness will follow them home.
