Former X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has claimed that he was stripped of his season 2 credit due to his social media post.

Weeks before the show's premiere last March, DeMayo was notably fired by Marvel Studios. During that time, no reason was stated regarding why the writer was suddenly let go from the acclaimed project.

Despite his firing, DeMayo remained active on social media as he provided behind-the-scenes information about the making of the first season and responded to questions from fans.

In his recent post on X last night, DeMayo claimed he was stripped of his credit for X-Men '97 season 2 due to the gay pride-themed X-Men fan art he posted on Instagram.

"Firstly, I’m so grateful to have worked on #XMen97, collaborating with some amazingly talented folks. Creating this revival was a dream come true and the support fans have shown is so touching. However, I felt it pressing for me to speak up in the wake of leaving the show…" he wrote.

"Above is #XMen fan-art I posted on Instagram for Gay Pride in June. On June 13, #Marvel sent a letter notifying me that they’d stripped my Season 2 credits due to the post. Sadly, this is the latest in a troubling pattern I suffered through while on working on #XMen97 and #Blade."

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel responded to DeMayo's post and disputed the claims that he made.

They stated that the former X-Men '97 showrunner was fired following an "egregious nature" of their findings in an internal investigation.

"Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel," the spokesperson said.

The report added that an "agreement was reached between the two parties over the issue of tweeting about the show" following DeMayo's firing.

While there were no exact details about the findings in the internal investigation, sources cited said that it involved "sexual misconduct."

DeMayo reacted to Marvel's statement regarding his post in another series of posts on X:
