Will Smith raised some eyebrows due to his lack of effort to reach out to Chris Rock after the infamous Oscars slap before he embarked on a spiritual journey in India. Many disapproved of his move thinking, he should have apologized to the comedian first.
Will Smith Slammed For Taking Spiritual Journey Without Personally Apologizing To Chris Rock
Hollywood insiders told Page Six that Will Smith embarked on a spiritual tour in India. He allegedly wanted to work on himself and ensure that he would never lose his temper and "allow violence to overtake reason."
But not all were impressed and some even mocked him for doing so because he skipped a crucial part — reaching out to Chris Rock to personally apologize to the comedian after he smacked him on stage for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head.
"Will’s ‘spiritual journey’ to India for yoga and meditation seems cynical and ridiculous, given that he hasn’t apologized personally to the one person he assaulted in front of millions," the unnamed source said. "No amount of Namastes will make up for that."
Some Twitter users shared the same sentiment.
"So disappointed," one commented.
"#WillSmith goes to India for spiritual purposes?? The man can't even apologize TO #ChrisRock. Now when I see him...I realize how fake that smile is & am truly DONE w/ him. He's got $.....go retire & leave the public alone. He's done enough damage!!! It's a forever thing 4 me!" another added.
Chris Rock's Mother Speaks About Will Smith Slapping Her Son And Says Oscar Winner Hasn't Apologized Personally
Will Smith issued a public apology to Chris Rock on Instagram a day after the Oscars. However, the Men in Black actor hasn't reached out to the comedian to ask for an apology in private.
Rock's mother, Rose Rock, said that Smith did not just hurt her son when he slapped him because his action was felt by the whole family.
"When he slapped Chris, he slapped all of us. He really slapped me, because when you hurt my child, you hurt me," she told news channel WIS TV. "You reacted to your wife giving you the side-eye, and you went and made her day because she was mulled over laughing when it happened."
She added that Smith hasn't reached out to personally apologize to her son.
"So many things could have happened. Chris could have stepped back and fallen. He never apologized. His people wrote up a piece ‘I apologize to Chris Rock’, but something like that is personal. You reach out," she said.
