Will fans finally hear Grogu speak in The Mandalorian and Grogu? One of the biggest questions heading into the character's big-screen debut is whether the 50-year-old apprentice will finally trade his signature coos for actual words. While the cinematic release offers endless possibilities for character growth, former Lucasfilm President and current producer Kathleen Kennedy has officially put the "talking Grogu" rumors to rest.
Could Grogu Finally Talk in The Mandalorian and Grogu Movie?

In a recent interview with Variety, on bringing The Mandalorian to the big screens, Kennedy addressed the possibility of whether Grogu will finally be able to talk in the movie, considering he's only ever communicated in cooing and gurgling.
See, Grogu is of the same species as Jedi Master Yoda. He first spoke in the Star Wars franchise in The Empire Strikes Back, where it was revealed that the simple creature could only ever speak backwards. So, is it possible that we'd see Grogu make his own speaking debut?
According to Kennedy, Grogu is described as "another perfect example of a character that has to emote, and you have to feel connected to, and he never speaks a word." So, no. Don't expect Grogu to speak anytime soon.
This debunks the fan theory that Grogu's silence is the aftermath of severe trauma from Order 66, which suggested that, despite being over 50 years old, his species' naturally slow maturation progression will likely hinder his speech patterns. Or if anything, potentially be influenced by Mandalorian speech patterns more than Yoda's.
For now, the studio wants to encourage fans to accept Grogu the way he is.
What Else Can Fans Expect From The Mandalorian and Grogu Movie?
The Mandalorian and Grogu movie will once again grace fans with the iconic bounty hunter Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu, navigating the post-Empire galaxy. The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords are still scattered across the galaxy. Expect Din and Grogu to help the New Republic reclaim their home.
"I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created," said director Jon Favreau on The Hollywood Reporter, "The prospect of bringing The Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."
The Mandalorian first premiered in November 2019 as the flagship show for Disney+. The film will leverage the massively popular culture icons to effectively push through the future of the Star Wars franchise in theaters, despite having minimal theatrical success since The Rise of Skywalker.
However, in the same interview, Kennedy added to reassure fans, "Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen."
Pedro Pascal will return as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, heading to theaters on May 22, 2026.
