Is there a possibility that Disney would reconsider renewing The Acolyte for a second season? The show's shocking cancellation had Star Wars fans reeling but they are determined to save it.
The question is, will Lucasfilm actually listen to the #SaveTheAcolyte and #RenewTheAcolyte campaigns?
Will Disney Bring Back The Acolyte? Hopeful Fans Launch Renewal Petition
Despite being set off as an eight-episode series, The Acolyte left plenty of unanswered questions that only a second season could answer for fans.
On August 19, however, Lucasfilm officially renounced all hopes of The Acolyte season 2 ever returning to Disney Plus, which enraged fans, considering the news sprung online right on Manny Jacinto's (who played Qimir aka The Stranger) birthday.
In retaliation, apart from trending hashtags all over social media, fans resorted to building The Acolyte's own petition. The petition, called Renew The Acolyte, was established on August 20 to address the decision of Lucasfilm and Disney.
According to the mission of the petition's significance, "The Acolyte opened doors for so many Star Wars fans, new and old, to feel seen," adding that the series "became a beacon for representation" that the "Star Wars universe" had been "lacking for decades."
From Amandla Stenberg playing the main twins of the story, Osha and Mae, Canadian-Filipino actor Manny Jacinto's villainous role, Squid Game's Lee Jung-Jae's Jedi Master Sol, and Jodie Turner-Smith's Mother Aniseya, the "new characters with new stories" became instant "fan-favorites because of the clear passion and love shown in the work."
The petition was set up by a fan called Blue Smith, and as of writing, it has gained 6,127 signatures from people who wish to bring the series back on track.
While fans may be well aware that it would take far more than a thousand signatures on a series petition to grab Disney and Lucasfilm's attention, it's certainly a good start to a potential renewal and bringing back the actors to return for season 2.
