Zack Snyder's recent Instagram post about Henry Cavill's Superman has sparked a major debate among the fan community due to the controversial caption.

The new DCU franchise was officially launched this year with the release of James Gunn's Superman, which introduces David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel for this generation. While some of the elements from DCEU were retained, the DCU serves as a reboot of the new DC franchise from scratch under the supervision of Gunn and DC Studios co-chairman Peter Safran.

In one of his recent posts on Instagram, Snyder shared a black-and-white behind-the-scenes photo of Henry Cavill as Superman on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

He wrote in the caption, "Henry Cavill is Superman. From BvS shot with my monochrome 50mm Noctilux. 3 weeks on Instagram thanks to everyone."

Snyder recently opened an Instagram account where he's been sharing several behind-the-scenes photos from the shooting of his upcoming film The Last Photograph.

However, the post has sparked a major debate among fans as they questioned the timing, the wording of the caption, and Snyder's intent to post it at this specific moment, where the DCU just launched with a new version of Superman.

Some fans on social media have called out Snyder for fueling his own fanbase, who have been clamoring for the return of the "Snyder-verse" and felt that the director has not moved on from the DCEU. Some have also called it disrespectful to the current version of Superman in the DCU, especially with the way the caption was written.

Snyder's fans have also defended the filmmaker, as they argued that he was just showing how proud he was of his work in the DCEU, and called out Gunn's fans for twisting Snyder's caption with a different meaning.

So far, neither Snyder nor Gunn has commented on the backlash surrounding the controversial Instagram post.

What's Next for Superman in the DCU?

Gunn recently confirmed that DC Studios is moving forward with the next Superman movie titled Man of Tomorrow. It is set for release on July 9, 2027.

David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are confirmed to reprise their respective roles of Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. Just like the first movie, Gunn is also serving as the director and writer of the project.

While most of the plot details are under wraps, Gunn teased that the film "is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat."
